  • The 2008 Calendar is now available online.  It will be updated throughout the year.

Recent News and Events

  • Troop 1 completed another great week at Scout Camp in early June.  We had 21 scouts and many adults come down to join the fun.  We were on the low end of the ticks removed at the medic's office (one troop had 125 removed in one day).  Eight scouts participated in Eagle Bound, 1 scout did the "Adventure Sailing" and many others earned merit badges.  We captured first in the Pentathlon, retired the colors at flags, said grace and marched our way to flags with the drums each day (a Troop 1 Tradition)!

  • Congratulations to all scouts receiving rank advancements and merit badges at the Court of Honor on May 19.  Eight scouts made the Scout rank.  One made Tenderfoot and two made Second Class.  One made First Class and one made Life.  Five scouts and leaders were tapped out for the Order of the Arrow.

  • Thanks to the 8 scouts who went to Pack 22's Blue and Gold Banquet and welcomed 3 new scouts into Troop 1.  Don't forget to ask someone to visit our meeting sometime.

  • 17 scouts attended the EEI Merit Badge Day on February 23rd.

  • 10 Scouts attended a Webeloes Crossover ceremony at Pack 19 on Saturday, February 23rd.  4 Webeloes crossed over and joined the troop.

  • Troop 1 participated in Scout Sunday on February 3rd at Grace Episcopal Church.  All scouts wore Class A uniforms and sat at the front of the church.  Scouts led the bible readings and group prayers during the service.  Our Senior Patrol Leader and Scoutmaster both thanked Grace Episcopal for sponsoring our troop since 1911.

  • The troop participated in the Klondike Derby at Camp Manchester the weekend of January 18 - 20.  15 scouts and 7 adults endured temperatures that reached the low teens on both nights, so all scouts earned their Polar Bear badge. Troop 1 was featured on a News Channel 6 story about the Klondike Derby.  Click here to view the video.

  • Troop 1 Scouts rang the bell for the Salvation Army on Monday, December 3 and Tuesday, December 11 at the Super Wal-Mart by the mall.

  • Congratulations to all scouts who earned rank advancements and merit badges at the Court of Honor held November 26.

  • Several Scouts attended the campout at Giant City during the weekend of November 17.  Everyone worked on their Nature merit badge.

  • The troop attended Merit Badge day at Murray State University on Saturday, November 3.

  • Mason Stewart and Jonathon Jones were awarded the rank of Eagle during a ceremony at Grace Episcopal church on October 28th.  11 other Eagle scouts were in attendance along with the members of Troop 1 and many guests.

  • 13 scouts and four leaders camped out for one night at Camp Roy C. Manchester.  The Wolverine patrol won the orienteering course competition set up by Dr. Baker.  Six scouts completed a conservation project by clearing the Nature Center area of a fallen tree and other debris.

  • A number of scouts and leaders helped give out water to runners in the Bar-B-Q on the River Festival 5-K Run on Saturday, September 29.  Scouts also helped in clean up.  Each scout earned 2 service hours for advancement.

  • 12 scouts and 5 leaders attended the camping trip to Mammoth Cave.  Everyone went on the 4 hour Grand Tour of the cave.  Lunch was served in the Snowball Room about 260 feet below the surface.  The weather was great above and below the surface!

  • 10 scouts had a good time at the Miners baseball game in August.  No foul balls were caught -- although several came very close.  It was t-shirt night, so everyone came home with a yellow Miners t-shirt.  After the game, we camped out at Fern Cliff State park.  A number of the younger scouts fixed a great breakfast on Sunday morning.

  • We had 11 Troop 1 members make the White Water Rafting trip in July to the Ocoee in East Tennessee.  It was another exciting time and everyone came back in one piece!

  • 18 Scouts attended Summer Camp in June.  All 18 scouts made a lot of progress towards ranks and earned many merit badges.  The troop also put on one of the best campfire skits on Friday night.  Nace K won first place in rifle competition.  Computer records will be updated so that scouts can complete partial merit badges.  Rifle, Communications, both Citizenships and Personal Fitness have some follow up.  Mr. Kiser wanted to thank all the parents for allowing their boys to go and providing "Cracker Barrel" for us.  He also wanted to thank all the adults who stayed at camp last week-- Dave Stricklin, Dave Perry, Carl Baker, Bill Flarsheim, Danny Middleton and Jerry Kight.  Special thanks to Jerry and Danny for being there all week and Bill Flarsheim for being there most of the week!

  • Six scouts and Mr. Kiser successfully completed their Ordeal Weekend in early June.  All are the newest members of the Order of the Arrow from Troop 1.

  • Five scouts were eligible for election to the Order of the Arrow.  Election was held on April 17th.  Tap outs for those elected will occur sometime before summer camp.

  • Troop 1 won the drawing for the GPS device at the District Camporee.  We also came in second in the cobbler competition.  15 scouts attended.  Weather was perfect!

  • Troop 1 fielded two sleds at the Klondike Derby.  Each team brought home a red ribbon.  Troop 1 also won second place in the chili cook-off.
